Are you looking to invest in some perimeter security systems for your property? Not sure which system is best for you?

When it comes to security systems there are a plethora of intruder detectors and physical barriers, each with their own pros and cons. With such a broad spectrum of products available, it can be confusing when trying to decide between them. When deciding on something as critical as security, it is important to have as much information available to you as possible so that you can make an informed decision.

There are two fundamental forms of perimeter systems, which are free standing and buried systems. These two systems consist of an assortment of sensor types, which are very dependant on the location and type of security needed.

The main feature of standing perimeter security systems is that they provide cost effective security over long straight perimeters, where the two ends of any particular section must be visible to each other, meaning they do not require a barrier like a wall or fence but they can be used in tandem with such structures to provide additional protection. They are particularly useful for the protection of roofs and walls, and work in a variety of weather conditions.

Buried systems are great because they are invisible once installed and therefore difficult for an intruder to locate. They are very versatile, being able to follow an irregular shaped boundary and are not limited to line of sight applications like the free standing systems. They are therefore ideal for irregular shaped sites, even in uneven terrain and under many different surfaces and do not require a wall or fence.

I would recommend microwave detection for straight perimeter, perhaps in conjunction with infrared. For an irregular site a fence or buried system of fibre optics is a good choice. This is of course dependant on your property and you should be aware that these systems can be vast undertakings that require considerable time and money to establish.
